TransEurope Slow

Take a virtual bike ride and explore the development of European cities through the eyes of the urban cyclist. TransEurope Slow negotiates modern cities and finds places that tell contemporary stories which move beyond tourist attractions, stereotypes, and city brands. Your journey will seamlessly switch from Liverpool to Helsinki and Madrid, linking the cities and highlighting their differences, and similarities.

The footage for this installation is collected in a series of a community-based workshops, in which locals guide the Uncoded Collective throughout the streets of European cities on bikes, telling stories as they made their way through the city. This process allows viewers to piece together a diverse narrative about their cities, communicating to visitors what the city feels like to them; what they love, what they hate, what has changed, what makes it unique, and how the city’s identity informs their own.

The project was produced by the Uncoded Collective / Sergio Galán for the Connecting Cities programme 2013. Main producer was Medialab-Prado, Madrid, in cooperation with FACT Liverpool and m-cult Helsinki.
