DEBATE ON LASIPALATSI SQUARE AND ITS PUBLIC SIGNIFICANCE
In 2015, construction work will begin at the Lasipalatsi Square in the context of the new Amos Anderson Art Museum project to be finished in 2017. How should the square be re-thought so that it will provide a space for action for citizens and artists alike? These are some of the questions to be addressed by the debate on The Future of the Square, which is a co-operation between the To the Square 2 project and Media Facades.
The panel will be moderated by the architect Tuomas Toivonen (Now Office) and introduced by the curators of To the Square 2, Ivor Stodolsky and Marita Muukkonen. Panelists include Kai Kartio (Amos Anderson), Marianna Kajantie (Lasipalatsin Media Centre), Tapio Mäkelä (mbar) Tuomas Rantanen (Voima / Green party), Minna Tarkka (m-cult /
Media Facades), a representative of the Dodo collective among others. The panel will be in Finnish, followed by an English part, where artists of the To The Square 2 and Media Facades projects will join the discussion to offer their views on the significance and uses of public space and squares and their personal experiences of “the square”.
